മുറ്റത്ത് തണലേകാൻ ഞാവൽ നടാം

ഭാരതത്തിലുടനീളം കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ഇഷ്ടമാണ് ഞാവൽ. ഏകദേശം 25 മീറ്റർ ഉയരത്തിൽ വരെ വരുന്നു. മങ്ങിയ വെള്ള നിറത്തിലുള്ള ചെറിയ പൂക്കൾ കാണാൻ വളരെ മനോഹരമാണ്. അല്പം ചവർപ്പു കൂടിയ മധുര ഫലം ഒട്ടുമിക്ക ആളുകളുടെയും പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട ഭക്ഷ്യ ഫലമാണ്. സാധാരണ കുരുക്കൾ നട്ടാണ് പുതിയ ചെടി വളർത്തുന്നത്. ജൂലൈ- ഓഗസ്റ്റ് മാസങ്ങളിലാണ് ഞാവലിന്റെ കായ്കൾ പഴുത്തു പാകമാകുന്നത്.

താഴ്ത്തു വീഴുന്ന കായ്കൾ ശേഖരിച്ച് ഉള്ളിലെ മാംസളമായ ഭാഗം നീക്കി ഇതിലെ വിത്തുകൾ നമുക്ക് പാകി മുളപ്പിക്കാം. ഏകദേശം 15-20 ദിവസംകൊണ്ട് കായ്കൾ മുളച്ചു തുടങ്ങും. ഒരുമാസം പ്രായമാകുമ്പോൾ തൈകൾ പോളി ബാഗുകളിൽ പറിച്ചുനടാം. പോളി ബാഗുകളിൽ നിന്ന് 3 മാസം പ്രായമായ തൈകൾ സാധാരണ മണ്ണിലേക്ക് നമുക്ക് പറിച്ച് നടാവുന്നതാണ്.

താരതമ്യേന സൂര്യപ്രകാശം ലഭ്യമാകുന്ന സ്ഥലവും, നീർവാർച്ചയുള്ള മണ്ണും ഞാവൽ കൃഷിക്ക് വേണ്ടി തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കാം. ഒന്നരയടി ആഴത്തിൽ കുഴികളെടുത്ത് ചാണകപ്പൊടിയും, മണലും, മേൽമണ്ണും നിറച്ച് മൂടി അതിനുമുകളിൽ തൈ നടാം. ജൂൺ- ജൂലൈ മാസങ്ങളിലാണ് തൈകൾ സാധാരണ നടുന്നത്. ക്രമമായ വളപ്രയോഗവും ജലസേചന നടത്തിയാൽ ഏകദേശം 5-7 വർഷത്തിനുള്ളിൽ കായ്കൾ ഉണ്ടായിത്തുടങ്ങും.

Njaval is a favorite found all over India. It grows to a height of about 25 m. The small flowers in pale white are very beautiful to look at. Slightly chewy sweet fruit is a favorite food of most people. The new plant is grown by planting normal pods. Jujube seeds ripen in July-August. We can collect the falling nuts, remove the fleshy part inside and sow the seeds. Fruits begin to germinate in about 15-20 days. Seedlings can be transplanted in poly bags at the age of one month. We can transplant 3 month old seedlings from poly bags to normal soil. Relatively sunny and well drained soil can be selected for jaggery cultivation. The pits are dug to a depth of one and a half feet, covered with manure, sand and topsoil and planted on top of it. Seedlings are usually planted in June-July. With regular fertilization and irrigation, the fruits start appearing in about 5-7 years.

120 വർഷം വരെ ഇതിന് ആയുസ്സ് ഉണ്ടെന്ന് പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഞാവലിന്റെ എല്ലാ ഭാഗങ്ങളും ഔഷധയോഗ്യമാണ്. അതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ ഔഷധ വിപണിയിൽ ഞാവലിന് വൻ ഡിമാൻഡാണ് ഉള്ളത്. ഇതിൻറെ തൊലിയും, കുരുവും പ്രമേഹം വാത സംബന്ധമായ പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ തുടങ്ങിയവ പരിഹരിക്കാൻ ഉത്തമമാണ്.
