സമൃദ്ധം കേശവന്‍ മാഷിന്‍റെ കൃഷിത്തോട്ടം

മലപ്പുറം ജില്ലയിലെ താനൂര്‍ മുനിസിപ്പാലിറ്റിയില്‍ പരിയാപുരം ആളാത്ത് വീട്ടില്‍ വരുന്നവര്‍ വെറുംകൈയ്യോടെ മടങ്ങാറില്ല. കവുങ്ങിന്‍ പാളയില്‍ മനോഹരമായി പൊതിഞ്ഞെടുത്ത നാടന്‍ പച്ചക്കറി വിഭവങ്ങളാണ് ആതിഥേയര്‍ അവര്‍ക്ക് നല്‍കുക. സന്തോഷത്തോടെ,വിഷപച്ചക്കറി കഴിക്കാതെ രണ്ടുനാളെങ്കിലും കഴിയാം വിരുന്നുകാരന്. സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ സ്‌കൂളില്‍ ഹെഡ്മാസ്റ്ററായി സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ച് 2017 ജൂണില്‍ കൊടിഞ്ഞി ജിഎംയുപി സ്‌കൂളില്‍ നിന്നും വിരമിച്ച കേശവന്‍ മാഷും കുടുംബവുമാണ് ആളാത്തുള്ളത്. കൃഷി എന്നും ഒപ്പമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഔദ്യോഗിക തിരക്കുകള്‍ക്കിടയിലും കുറേക്കാലം പശുക്കളെ വളര്‍ത്തിയിരുന്നു മാഷ്. ഭാര്യ ഗീതയാണ് പച്ചക്കറികൃഷി അധികവും ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുക.മകന്‍ സംഗീത് ശങ്കര്‍ ബോംബെ ഐഐടിയില്‍ ഗവേഷണ വിദ്യാര്‍ത്ഥിയാണ്. റിട്ടയര്‍മെന്റിന് ശേഷം മാഷ് കൃഷിയില്‍ കൂടുതല്‍ തത്പ്പരനായി. ഇപ്പോള്‍ കോവിഡ് കാലത്ത് ഏറ്റവും ആനന്ദകരമായ നിമിഷങ്ങളാണ് കൃഷി പ്രദാനം ചെയ്യുന്നത്.

തെങ്ങും കവുങ്ങും പ്രധാനം

രണ്ടേക്കര്‍ പുരയിടമുണ്ട് മാഷിന്. പ്രധാനകൃഷി തെങ്ങുതന്നെ. 150 തെങ്ങുകളുണ്ട് പറമ്പില്‍.വര്‍ഷം 15,000-18,000 തേങ്ങവരെ ലഭിക്കും. ആദായകരമായ മറ്റൊരു കൃഷി അടയ്ക്കയാണ്. മംഗളയാണ് പ്രധാനം.കാസര്‍ഗോഡന്‍,രത്‌നഗിരി,മോഹിത്‌നഗര്‍ എന്നിവയുമുണ്ട് കൂട്ടത്തില്‍. 3000 തൈകള്‍ വരെ നാട്ടുകാര്‍ക്ക് വിതരണം ചെയ്തിരുന്നു, ഇപ്പോള്‍ സ്വന്തം ആവശ്യത്തിനുള്ള തൈകളെ ഉത്പ്പാദിപ്പിക്കുന്നുള്ളു.രണ്ടര-മൂന്ന് ക്വിന്റല്‍ അടയ്ക്കവരെ ലഭിക്കും. കാസര്‍ഗോഡുള്ള കുമ്പള നീര്‍ച്ചാലിലെ ചന്തയിലാണ് നല്ല വില കിട്ടുക. ചിലപ്പോള്‍ അവിടം വരെ വണ്ടിയോടിച്ചു പോകും വില്‍പ്പനയ്ക്കായി. പഴുത്ത അടയ്ക്ക ഉണക്കി പൊളിച്ചാണ് വില്‍ക്കുന്നത്. പഴയടയ്ക്കയും പുതിയടയ്ക്കയുമുണ്ട്. ഓണം കഴിഞ്ഞ് വിനായ ചതുര്‍ത്ഥികഴിയുന്നതോടെ സ്‌റ്റോക്കുള്ള അടയ്ക്ക പഴയതാവും.

സഞ്ചാരച്ചിലവിന് ജാതി

കൃഷിയില്‍ മറ്റൊരു പ്രധാനി ജാതിയാണ്. കല്യാണം കഴിഞ്ഞ് മധുവിധു കാലത്താണ് ആദ്യമായി ജാതി നട്ടു തുടങ്ങിയത്. ഇതില്‍ നിന്നു കിട്ടുന്ന വരുമാനം യാത്രയ്ക്കായി മാറ്റി വയ്ക്കുകയായിരുന്നു രീതി. വര്‍ഷത്തില്‍ നാല്‍പ്പതിനായിരം -നല്‍പ്പത്തയ്യായിരം രൂപ വരെ ലഭിക്കും.കുളു-മണാലി ഉള്‍പ്പെടെ പല യാത്രകള്‍ക്കും തുണയായത് ജാതിക്ക വിറ്റുകിട്ടിയ പണമാണ്. ജാതിക്ക് നേരത്തെ നല്ല വിലയുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. കിലോയ്ക്ക് 400-500 രൂപ വരെ കിട്ടിയിരുന്നു. പക്ഷെ ഇപ്പോള്‍ വിലയില്ല. വെറും 200 രൂപ മാത്രം. ജാതിപത്രിക്ക് 1200 രൂപ കിട്ടും. ഇപ്പോള്‍ 15 കിലോ സ്‌റ്റോക്കുണ്ട്. വില വര്‍ദ്ധനവിലാണ് പ്രതീക്ഷ. എല്ലാ തെങ്ങിലും കുരുമുളക് പടര്‍ത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. കുരുമുളകിനും ഇപ്പോള്‍ കഷ്ടകാലമാണ്. വിലയില്ല. 60 കിലോ സ്‌റ്റോക്കുണ്ട്. നല്ല വില പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുകയാണ് ഇപ്പോള്‍.

നല്ല മഞ്ഞളിന് എന്നും ഡിമാന്‍ഡാണ്

മഞ്ഞളും ഇഞ്ചിയും കൃഷിയിനത്തിലുണ്ട്. മഞ്ഞള്‍ പുഴുങ്ങി ഉണക്കി പൊടിക്കും. പൊതുവെ മാര്‍ക്കറ്റില്‍ ലഭിക്കുന്ന മായം ചേര്‍ന്ന മഞ്ഞള്‍പൊടിക്ക് കിലോ 150 രൂപയാണ് വില. കേശവന്‍ മാഷിന്റെ വീട്ടിലെ ശുദ്ധമായ ജൈവമഞ്ഞള്‍ പൊടിക്ക് 250-300 രൂപ നല്‍കി വാങ്ങാനും ആളുണ്ട്. ആഴ്ചയില്‍ ഒന്ന്-രണ്ട് വാഴക്കുലകള്‍ വില്‍ക്കാനുണ്ടാകും.തൊട്ടടുത്ത കടകളിലാണ് നല്‍കുക. ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഞാലിപ്പൂവനൊക്കെ കുറച്ചു വിലക്കുറവാണ്,അതിനാല്‍ കിലോ 20-25 ഒക്കെയെ കിട്ടുകയുള്ളു.പൂവനും കര്‍പ്പൂരവല്ലിയുംപാളയംതോടനുമൊക്കെ കൃഷി ചെയ്യുന്നുണ്ട്. ഈ വര്‍ഷം ഈന്തും വിളവ് തന്നു. ബൈക്കിലും തന്റെ ഇക്കോസ്‌പോര്‍ട്ട് കാറിലുമായാണ് വില്‍പ്പന ചരക്കുകള്‍ കൊണ്ടുപോകുക.

മള്‍ച്ചിംഗ് ഗുണപ്രദം

പച്ചക്കറിക്ക് ഈ വര്‍ഷം ആദ്യമായി മള്‍ച്ചിംഗ് ഉപയോഗിച്ചു. വലിയ വിജയമായി. ഫെബ്രുവരിയില്‍ നട്ട വെണ്ടയില്‍ നിന്നും ഇപ്പോഴും ആദായമെടുക്കുന്നു. സുഹൃത്തുക്കളുടെ വീട്ടില്‍ നിന്നെടുക്കുന്ന ഗോമൂത്രവും ചാണകവുമാണ് പ്രധാന വളങ്ങള്‍. വളം ശേഖരിക്കാനും പ്രയോഗിക്കാനുമെല്ലാം കൂട്ട് സുഹൃത്ത് മുരളിയാണ്. നേരത്തെ മേശിരിപ്പണി നടത്തിയിരുന്ന മുരളി ഇപ്പോള്‍ കൂട്ടുകൃഷിയിലെ സജീവ പങ്കാളിയാണ്. ജീവാമൃതവും തയ്യാറാക്കാറുണ്ട്. ചെറിയ തോതില്‍ ആവശ്യമുള്ളിടത്ത് രാസവളപ്രയോഗം നടത്തും. എന്നാല്‍ രാസകീടനാശിനിക്ക് പ്രവേശനമില്ല. പരമാവധി കൈകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ കീടങ്ങളെ നശിപ്പിക്കും. കഞ്ഞിവെള്ളവും വേപ്പെണ്ണയുമൊക്കെയാണ് മറ്റു കീടനാശിനികള്‍. വെണ്ടക്കു പുറമെ കറിമൂസ്,പച്ചക്കായ,ചേന,ചേമ്പ്,ചെറുചേമ്പ്,ചുരക്ക,പാവല്‍,പടവലം,പയര്‍,കോവയ്ക്ക തുടങ്ങിയവയെല്ലാം വീട്ടുകറികളെ സജീവമാക്കുന്നു. 5 കിലോ മുളക് ഈയിടെ ലഭിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി.കൊണ്ടാട്ടമുണ്ടാക്കി സുഹൃത്തുക്കള്‍ക്കൊക്കെ നല്‍കി. പച്ചക്കറി വില്‍ക്കാറില്ല. അതും സുഹൃത്തുക്കള്‍ക്കും വീട്ടില്‍ വരുന്നവര്‍ക്കുമൊക്കെയായി നല്‍കും. അതൊരു സന്തോഷമാണ്, മാഷ് പറയുന്നു.നല്ലയിനം ഹൈബ്രിഡ് വിത്തുകള്‍ പരപ്പനങ്ങാടിയിലെ റസാഖിന്റെ ഹരിതം സ്റ്റാളില്‍ നിന്നാണ് വാങ്ങുക.

ഇനി റയിന്‍ഷെഡില്‍ ഒരു കൈ നോക്കാം

ഇപ്പോള്‍ റയിന്‍ഷെഡ് പദ്ധതി നടപ്പിലാക്കാനുള്ള ശ്രമത്തിലാണ്. കൃഷി വകുപ്പിന്റെ 50 % സബ്‌സിഡിയുളള റയിന്‍ഷെഡിന് 90,000 രൂപയാണ് ചിലവ്. രണ്ടര സെന്റ് സ്ഥലം ഇതിന് വേണ്ടിവരും. ഇവിടെ തൈകള്‍ ഉത്പ്പാദിപ്പിച്ച് കൃഷി വകുപ്പിന് തന്നെ നല്‍കാന്‍ ആലോചിക്കുന്നു. വീടിന് മുന്നിലുളള പഴയ കിണര്‍ ഇപ്പോള്‍ കുളമാക്കി മാറ്റിയിരിക്കയാണ്. ഇതില്‍ മീന്‍ വളര്‍ത്താനും പദ്ധതിയുണ്ട്. നാട്ടുകാര്‍ക്കുവേണ്ടി മാറ്റിവച്ചിട്ടുളള മറ്റൊരിനം നാട്ടുമാങ്ങയാണ്. സീസണില്‍ ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് മാങ്ങയുണ്ടാവും. എപ്പോഴും മാഞ്ചോട്ടില്‍ മാങ്ങ വീഴുന്നുണ്ടാവും. ആര്‍ക്കും എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടുപോയി കഴിക്കുകയോ മാമ്പഴപുളിശ്ശേരി വയ്ക്കുകയോ ചെയ്യാം. മൂവാണ്ടനുള്‍പ്പെടെ മറ്റു ചില മാവുകളും പറമ്പിന് അലങ്കാരമായുണ്ട്

കോവിഡൊന്നു കഴിയട്ടെ

ഇപ്പോള്‍ കോവിഡ് കാലമാണ്. വീട്ടില്‍ത്തന്നെ ഇരിക്കേണ്ട കാലം. സാമൂഹിക അകലവും പാലിക്കണം. അതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ കേശവന്‍ മാഷിന്റെ തോട്ടം കാണാന്‍ ഇപ്പോഴാരും പോകേണ്ട. ഈ കാലം കഴിയട്ടെ, നമുക്ക് ഒന്നിച്ചു പോകാം, പാളയില്‍ പൊതിഞ്ഞുതരുന്ന ചീരയും പയറും വെണ്ടയും മുളകുമൊക്കെയായി മടങ്ങാം. അതുവരെ കാത്തിരിക്കാം.

Keshavan Mash's farm

Those who visit Alath house Pariyapuram in Tanur Municipality in Malappuram district do not return empty handed. The host will serve local vegetable dishes beautifully wrapped in Areca leaf base. Happily, the guest can prepare non poisonous vgetable curry  for at least two days. Keshavan Mash  who retired from Kodinji GMUP School in June 2017 after serving as headmaster there, had been raising cows for some time in the midst of official rush. His wife Geeta has a good vegetable garden. His son Sangeeth Shankar is a research student at IIT Bombay. After retirement, Mash became more interested in farming. Cultivation now offers some of the happiest moments during  the Covid era.

Coconut and areca are important

Mash  has a two acre farmyard. The main crop is coconut. There are 150 coconuts in the orchard. He gets 2000-2500 coconuts  annually. Another lucrative crop is areca. Mangala is the main variety planted.Other varieties  are Kasargodan, Ratnagiri and Mohit Nagar. Up to 3000 seedlings were distributed to the natives earlier and now he is producing seedlings for his own use. He gets two and a half to three quintals of areca every year.

Nutmeg for travel expenses

Another important crop is nutmeg . Proceeds from this were set aside for travel. He gets forty to forty-five thousand rupees a year from nutmeg. Many trips, including to Kullu-Manali, were funded by nutmeg. The nutmeg had a good price earlier. The price was around Rs 400-500 per kg. But now the  price slashed drastically. Just Rs.200/- The nutmeg pathri  will get Rs 1200. Presently,he has a stock of 15 kg  pathri. He is expecting a goo price in the coming days.He planted pepper  along coconut plants. The yield is good ,but pepper business is also in trouble now.Price slashed . He has a 60 kg stock ,expecting for a  good market  price.

Good turmeric is always in demand

Turmeric and ginger are also cultivated. Turmeric is boiled, dried and ground. The price of adulterated turmeric, which is generally available in the market, is Rs. 150 per kg. People love to buy pure organic turmeric at Keshavan Mash's house for Rs 250-300. One or two banana bunch  a week are available for sale. At present, Njali poovan are a bit cheaper, so will  get  only 20-25 kg. Poovan, Karpuravalli and Palayamthodan are also cultivated.

Mulching is effective

For the first time this year, mulching was used for vegetables. It was a great success,says Kesavan mash. Ladies finger is still reaping the benefits of planting in February. The main fertilizers are cow dung and cow urine  taken from friends' houses. "Murali is my friend who helps me to collect and apply fertilizer. Murali, who used to work as a mason is now an active participant in Kesavan mash's farm. jeevamrutham is also prepared. Chemical fertilizers are applied in small quantities where ever required. But there is no use of  pesticides. "I destroy pests with maximum manual effort. Other pesticides include rice juice  and neem oil, he says. In addition to lady's finger, other  vegetables like  lentils, sorghum, paval, plantain,  and kovaika are also available. I recently received 5 kg of chillies. We make "kondatum"and gave them to my friends. Vegetables are not sold. It will also be given to friends and family. That's a pleasure, Mash says.

Now planning rainshed

At present the rainshed project is in the process of being implemented. The cost of a rain shed with 50% subsidy from the Department of Agriculture is Rs.90,000. Two and a half cents earmarked for the purpose. It is planned to produce seedlings here and supply them to the Department of Agriculture itself. The old well in front of the house has now been converted into a pond. There are also plans to raise fish in it. Another crop reserved for the natives is "Nattu manga". There will be thousands of mangoes every season. Mangoes always fall on the mangroves. Anyone can take it and eat it or can make  Mampazhapulissery. Some other mango varieties including moovandan are also available.
