ലോകമൊട്ടാകെ ഏകദേശം 140 കോവിഡ് 19 വാക്സിന് പരീക്ഷണങ്ങളാണ് നടക്കുന്നത്. ഇതില് 16 എണ്ണം മൃഗങ്ങളിലെ പരീക്ഷണ ഘട്ടം താണ്ടി മനുഷ്യരില് ക്ലിനിക്കല് ട്രയല് ആരംഭിച്ചു. ഇതില് 5 എണ്ണം ചൈനയും 3 എണ്ണം അമേരിക്കയും 2 എണ്ണം ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടും ഓരോന്നു വീതം ജര്മ്മനിയും റഷ്യയും ആസ്ട്രേലിയയുമാണ് വികസിപ്പിച്ചത്.
ഇന്ത്യയുടെ കോവാക്സിന്( COVAXIN)
ഭാരത് ബയോടെക് ഇന്ത്യ ലിമിറ്റഡാണ് കോവിഡ് വാക്സിന് നിര്മ്മാണത്തില് ഒന്നാമത് നില്ക്കുന്ന ഇന്ത്യന് സ്ഥാപനം. നാഷണല്‍ ഇന്‍സ്റ്റിട്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് വൈറോളജിയുമായി(NIV) ചേര്‍ന്നാണ് വാക്സിന് വികസിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. NIV രോഗലക്ഷണം കാണിക്കാത്ത ഒരു രോഗിയില്‍ നിന്നും വേര്‍തിരിച്ചെടുത്ത നോവല്‍ കൊറോണ വൈറസിന്റെ strain ല്‍ നിന്നാണ് ഗവേഷണം ആരംഭിച്ചത്. 2020 മെയിലാണ് ഇതിന് തുടക്കമിട്ടത്. മരണപ്പെട്ട വൈറസിനെ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ഇന്‍ആക്ടിവേറ്റഡ് വാക്സിന് നിര്‍മ്മിക്കാനാണ് ശ്രമം. മൃഗങ്ങളില്‍ നടന്ന പരീക്ഷണം സുരക്ഷിതവും പ്രതിരോധശേഷി നല്‍കുന്നതുമാണ്. ഇനി മനുഷ്യനിലാണ് ക്ലിനിക്കല് ട്രയല് തുടങ്ങേണ്ടത്. എല്ലാം ഉദ്ദേശിച്ച നിലയില്‍ പുരോഗമിക്കുകയും റഗുലേറ്റേഴ്‌സ് അംഗീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്താല്‍ 2021 ആദ്യം വാക്സിന് ലഭ്യമാക്കാന്‍ കഴിയും. Zydus Cadilla,Serum Institute of India, Panacea Biotech എന്നിവയാണ് ഇന്ത്യയില്‍ നിന്നും പരീക്ഷണം നടത്തുന്ന മറ്റ് കമ്പനികള്‍.
ഓക്‌സ്‌ഫോര്‍ഡ് സര്‍വ്വകലാശാല
ഓക്‌സ്‌ഫോര്‍ഡ് സര്‍വ്വകലാശാലയുടെ വാക്സിന് കാന്‍ഡിഡേറ്റാണ് AZD1222. ശ്വാസനാളത്തിന്റെ മുകള്‍ഭാഗത്ത് ഇന്‍ഫെക്ഷനുണ്ടാക്കുന്ന അഡിനോവൈറസിനെ ഉപയോഗിച്ചാണ് വാക്സിന് വികസിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. ട്രയലിന്റെ മൂന്നാം ഘട്ടത്തിലാണ് ഇപ്പോള്‍. ബ്രസീല്‍,ഇംഗ്ലണ്ട് ദക്ഷിണാഫ്രിക്ക എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലെ 8000 വോളണ്ടിയേഴ്‌സിലാണ് ട്രയല് നടക്കുന്നത്.
കാസിനോ ബയോളജിക്‌സ്
ചൈനയിലെ കാസിനോ ബയോളജിക്‌സ് വികസിപ്പിക്കുന്ന വാക്സിന് കാന്‍ഡിഡേറ്റാണ് Ad 5-n CoV. ഒന്നും രണ്ടും ക്ലിനിക്കല് ട്രയലുകളില്‍ ഇത് ഒരു പരിധിവരെ ഗുണപ്രദമാണ് എന്നു കണ്ടെത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
ബയോണ്ടെക്-ഫിഷര്‍
ജര്‍മ്മന്‍-അമേരിക്കന്‍ സംയുക്ത വാക്സിന് നിര്‍മ്മാണമാണിത്. RNA അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കിയുള്ള വാക്‌സിനാണ് വികസിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. BNT162b1 എന്ന ഈ കാന്‍ഡിഡേറ്റ് ഒന്നാം ഘട്ടം ട്രയലില്‍ വലിയ പ്രതീക്ഷയാണ് നല്‍കുന്നത്. ഇത് ഉയര്‍ന്ന അളവില്‍ കോവിഡ് 19 ആന്റിബോഡി ഉത്പ്പാദിപ്പിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.
ഇനോവിയോ
അമേരിക്കന്‍ കമ്പനിയായ ഇനോവിയോ ഫാര്‍മസ്യൂട്ടിക്കല്‍സ് തയ്യാറാക്കുന്ന INO-4800, SARS-CoV-2 വൈറസിന്റെ DNA സീക്വന്‍സിന് മാച്ചാകുന്ന മരുന്നാണ് വികസിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. കോവിഡിനെ പ്രതിരോധിക്കുന്ന ആന്റിബോഡി ശരീരത്തില്‍ രൂപപ്പെടും എന്നാണ് കമ്പനി അവകാശപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഈ വര്‍ഷം അവസാനത്തോടെ പത്തുലക്ഷം ഡോസ് ഉത്പ്പാദിപ്പിക്കാനാണ് ലക്ഷ്യമിടുന്നത്.
ഏതായാലും 2021 കോവിഡിനെ അതിജീവിക്കുന്ന ഒരു പുത്തന്‍ലോകമാകും എന്നു പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കാം.
Covid 19 Vaccine will be ready by 2021 - 140 candidates, 16 in clinical trial
There are about 140 Covid19 vaccine trials around the world. Of these, 16 went through animal testing and started a clinical trial in humans. Of these, 5 were developed by China, 3 by the United States, 2 by England, one each by Germany, Russia and Australia.
Covaxin of India
Bharat Biotech India Limited is the first Indian company to manufacture the Covid Vaccine. The vaccine is being developed in partnership with the National Institute of Virology (NIV). The research began with the strain of a novel coronavirus isolated by NIV from a patient who did not show COVID19 symptoms . The project was launched in May 2020. The attempt is to produce an inactivated vaccine using a deadly virus. Experiments in animals have been shown to be safe and immunogenic. The clinical trial should start in humans. If everything goes as planned and the regulators approve it, the vaccine could be made available by early 2021. Zydus Cadilla, Serum Institute of India and Panacea Biotech are some of the other companies experimenting in India.
University of Oxford
AZD1222 is a vaccine candidate for the University of Oxford. The vaccine is developed using an adenovirus that infects the upper respiratory tract. It is currently in phase 3 of the trial. The trial is on in Brazil, England and South Africa with over 8,000 volunteers.
Casino Biologics
Ad 5-n CoV is a vaccine candidate developed by Casino Biologics in China. It has been found to be beneficial to some extent in clinical trials.
Biontech-Fisher
It is a German-American collaboration. RNA-based vaccines are being developed. This candidate, BNT162b1, provides great hope in the first phase trial. It produces high levels of Covid19 antibody.
Inovio
The INO-4800, by the US company Innovio Pharmaceuticals, is designed to match the DNA sequence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The company claims that vaccine recipients will have very specific antibodies against COVID. It is expected to produce one million doses by the end of this year.
